September 9, 2025

Dear SCPC Family:

I’m writing to you today not just as the Executive Director of the Shenandoah County Pregnancy Center, but as someone who feels burdened to protect the mission you faithfully support.

For 31 years, the SCPC has offered life-saving options by focusing on and ministering to the women, men, and babies in front of us. Today, I step outside of my usual responsibilities to warn you about a threat that puts everything that the SCPC does at risk.

THE PROBLEM–A PROPOSED AMENDMENT TO THE VIRGINIA CONSTITUTION12

There is a proposed amendment to the Virginia Constitution that would enshrine “reproductive freedom” as a fundamental right and allow abortion all nine months of pregnancy. If this amendment passes, pregnancy centers like ours could be seen as “infringing, burdening, or denying” these rights simply because we do not provide or refer for abortions. Legal experts believe this amendment would open the door to legal attacks on pregnancy centers that would make it very difficult for us to continue to serve the women, men, and families who need us most.

Let me be clear: This amendment is a direct threat to the SCPC’s existence.

WHERE THE AMENDMENT STANDS

The amendment passed the General Assembly in 2025 and will be voted on a second time in January 2026. If the November 2025 House of Delegates election results in a pro-abortion majority again, it will pass and be voted on as a ballot initiative in November 2026. Given the most recent polling numbers–61% of Virginians favoring the amendment–the amendment will pass. And the governor has no veto power with regards to constitutional amendments.

The good news? This can be stopped. The House of Delegates is currently 51-49 pro-abortion. If House Delegate seats flip favorably to a life-affirming majority, the amendment is defeated and the threat is gone.

OUR POSITION

We cannot be silent. At Shenandoah County Pregnancy Center, we have never made political endorsements and we never will. But this amendment is more than politics–it is a direct attack on the mission and ministry of the SCPC and the lives of women and the unborn in our community.

My job is not to tell you who to vote for but to tell you the truth. The only realistic path to stopping this amendment is to elect life-affirming candidates to the House of Delegates this November.

WHAT CAN WE DO

● Pray! Ask (and keep asking) the Lord to establish a life-affirming majority in the House of Delegates.

● Join the SCPC 40 Days of Prayer beginning Friday, September 26th leading up to Election Day.

● Learn about the amendment by going to https://lis.virginia.gov/bill-details/20251/HJ1

● Be informed about a candidate’s stand on life and vote in keeping with your life-affirming values.

● Share this information with your family and friends across the state and encourage them to be informed about their candidate’s stand on life.

WHY IT MATTERS

Imagine a future where the SCPC is forced to shut its doors—not because we failed to serve our community with excellence, but because we stood firm in our conviction that life is sacred and worthy of protection. Imagine a Virginia where no voice remains to offer women a real, informed choice.

Now, imagine . . .
A future where life is cherished.
Where centers like SCPC not only survive, but flourish.
Where the next generation of children and families thrive because we came together and declared, "Not on our watch."

This isn’t about politics—it’s about purpose. It’s about standing faithfully for truth, compassion, and life and protecting the mission of SCPC.

I believe we can remain true to our calling and still take bold, meaningful action.

Thank you for standing with us.

For life,

Lisa
